Staff Engineer - Front End

The Staff Engineer - Front End is responsible for helping domain teams design and implement effective front-end technical solutions to create engaging user experiences. They facilitate solution design across teams to drive architectural alignment and technical consistency while providing subject matter and technical expertise.

The Staff Engineer serves as a role model for other Engineers by exemplifying engineering best practice in the work they deliver. Their education, guidance and mentoring of other Engineers helps build the front-end development capability at Greenstone.

The Staff Engineer Will

• Drive the front-end architecture and technical strategy, in collaboration with the Principal Engineer and GM Engineering, as part of the technology modernisation effort
• Lead and support the design of sophisticated front-end applications across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with architectural/technical strategy and standards
• Facilitate technical discussions and timely decisions, ensuring best practices and scalable architecture are balanced with delivery outcomes
• Proactively monitor and advocate for the management of technical debt across the application landscape, working closely with Product & Engineering leaders to prioritise accordingly
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle to help teams bring the architectural vision to life, creating reference architecture and reusable components to enable other teams
  
  

What are we looking for?

• 8+ years of experience in front-end development, with a strong portfolio of shipped products
• Comprehensive knowledge of modern CSS architecture and semantic HTML
• Expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience working with multiple modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js)
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and data synchronization
• Practical experience with a variety of system architectures such as monolithic, distributed, microservice, serverless, cloud-native, RESTful APIs, etc.
• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
• Highly developed technical leadership, decision making and influencing skills
