Our Team

Octopus Energy Engineering is responsible for the websites, services, and tariffs that are used by the millions of Octopus Energy customers worldwide. From building the latest, cutting-edge time-of-use tariffs, to helping customers actually enjoy tasks like providing meter readings through our wheel of fortune - and everything in between.

You will find a wide variety of challenges in the work we do as we help push the energy revolution forward. Our teams are multi-disciplined and collaborate between countries (UK, EU, APAC and USA) in global development projects, meaning you have what you need to get the right people together and build the next great thing.

Teams are empowered to choose a way of working that suits them, often opting for a Kanban-like approach. Notion and Asana are used to specify and manage work; Github and CircleCI among others, as part of an immutable-infrastructure, continuous delivery pipeline; and Datadog and Sentry to measure performance and monitor production.

• We're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful. It would be helpful to have experience in the following (in rough priority order):
• Hands-on experience with Python and any web framework - Django is a plus
• Experience working with REST APIs - GraphQL is a plus
• Experience collaborating on codebases using Git
• Ability to communicate in English (participating in meetings and discussions, reading and writing)
  
  

• Have knowledge of database management and SQL
• Interest in environmental issues and the energy industry
• Be able to write technical specifications and maintain clear, concise code documentation
• Some knowledge of Datadog and/or Sentry
