About the Company
I'm working with an incredible, innovative and VC-backed mental health technology company based in Berlin. With an established consumer product embedded in the German healthcare system, the team has built a strong foundation combining science-backed products, real users, and sustainable growth.
They’re now expanding their AI capabilities to build the next generation of consumer-facing LLM applications. The company operates with a long-term mindset, strong institutional partnerships, and a small, highly capable team where individual contribution truly matters.
The Role
As an AI Application Engineer, you’ll build and operate production-grade LLM systems used directly by consumers.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on real-world AI applications, not research or internal tooling. You’ll work across backend, LLM orchestration, and deployment, helping design systems that are fast, reliable, and safe at scale.
You’ll have significant ownership, work closely with senior engineers and founders, and contribute to core architectural decisions.
What You’ll Work On
- Consumer-facing LLM chatbot systems with real-time performance requirements
- Backend services and APIs supporting high-volume user interactions
- LLM pipelines (including RAG) and conversation logic
- Safety, monitoring, and reliability mechanisms
- Deployment, scaling, and performance optimisation
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy LLM-based applications in production
- Own features end-to-end, from idea to deployment
- Solve latency, scalability, and reliability challenges
- Collaborate on system architecture and technical direction
- Take initiative, identify problems early, and propose solutions
Must-Haves
- Strong Python development experience
- Hands-on experience with production LLM systems
- Backend development experience (e.g. FastAPI)
- Experience deploying services using Docker and cloud infrastructure
- Experience working on user-facing products
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with consumer-facing chatbots
- Exposure to high-traffic or low-latency systems
- Familiarity with LangChain or similar frameworks
- Experience in regulated or health-related environments
I'm looking for smart, self-directed engineers with a massive growth mindset, who want to get their hands dirty and get stuck in. If you don’t tick every box but learn fast and take ownership, apply and let's chat! :)
What’s On Offer
- Competitive salary with flexibility for exceptional candidates who have the drive and hunger to work on exciting, fast-developing projects
- VSOP equity participation
- Real, high ownership and real influence on technical decisions
- Supportive, feedback-driven engineering culture with a strong, positive team setup
- Hybrid with a Berlin-based team
- The opportunity to work on AI products with meaningful real-world impact, making positive differences to real lives
