About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer specializing in Security Observability to join our dedicated Security team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable systems that enhance OpenAI’s security observability infrastructure. Your expertise will be instrumental in building robust data pipelines, improving system resilience, and supporting forensic investigations and compliance efforts. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Detection & Response (D&R), to identify vulnerabilities, reduce security risks, and strengthen our overall security posture. This position offers flexibility for remote work or relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
- Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure
- Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines, especially for security-related data
- Knowledge of security observability and monitoring systems
- Experience with data engineering, forensic investigations, and compliance support
- Understanding of site reliability engineering (SRE) principles
- Ability to collaborate effectively with security and engineering teams
- Proactive problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Flexible engineering mindset capable of pivoting across technical domains
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, secure software systems to facilitate security observability
- Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize security-relevant data from diverse sources
- Enhance the resilience and reliability of data systems to ensure high platform availability
- Collaborate with Detection & Response teams to identify and mitigate security risks
- Support forensic investigations and compliance efforts through data engineering
- Implement security best practices in software development and infrastructure management
- Continuously improve data visibility and forensic capabilities for security teams
- Stay updated on emerging security threats and technological advancements to proactively adapt systems
