NOC Engineer (SME/Lead) –

Job Summary

The L3 NOC Engineer is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the smooth operation of Managed Wi‑Fi and LAN services within a 24×7 Network Operations Center environment. This role involves advanced incident resolution, problem management, proactive monitoring, automation of recurring tasks, and coordination with OEMs for long‑term fixes.

The engineer acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for complex issues, supporting NOC L1/L2 teams and ensuring high network availability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Network Monitoring & Incident Management

  • Monitor network infrastructure, Wi-Fi & LAN environments, and service performance through NOC tools.
  • Lead L3 escalations and provide rapid restoration of services for critical incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive permanent fixes to minimize repeat issues.
  • Ensure timely and clear communication to customers and internal stakeholders during incidents.

Problem Management & Change Execution

  • Partner with OEMs and internal engineering teams to resolve recurring network problems.
  • Review and approve change requests (CRs) requiring L3 expertise.
  • Execute high complexity configuration changes on switches, controllers, firewalls, and access points.
  • Maintain documentation for troubleshooting steps, SOPs, and configuration baselines.

Proactive Network Operations

  • Continuously analyse network health and performance metrics to prevent outages.
  • Identify unstable devices, environmental impacts, and capacity risks.
  • Recommend infrastructure improvements to enhance service stability and performance.

Automation & Process Improvement

  • Identify repetitive tasks across NOC operations and lead automation initiatives.
  • Develop scripts, templates, and workflows to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
  • Contribute to operational excellence through process standardization and optimization.

Team & Stakeholder Support

  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical assistance to L1/L2 NOC teams.
  • Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and post incident reviews.
  • Collaborate with customers, operations teams, and vendors to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong L3‑level troubleshooting of:
    • Cisco Catalyst Switches
    • Meraki
    • Aruba
    • Fortinet
    • Juniper Mist
  • Expertise in Layer‑2 and Layer‑3 technologies (STP, VLANs, HSRP/VRRP, OSPF, BGP, Multicast, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Wireless technologies
    • NAC (Cisco ISE / Aruba ClearPass)
    • Catalyst Center / Mist Dashboard / Meraki Dashboard
  • Experience using NOC monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, DNAC Assurance, etc/ Manage Engine.)
  • Ability to interpret logs, packet captures, and performance analytics.
Preferred Certifications

  • Cisco – CCNA / CCNP (Enterprise / R&S)
  • Wireless – CWNA
  • Juniper – JNCIA / JNCIP
