This role focuses on developing a robust monocular Visual Odometry or Visual-Inertial Odometry (VIO) solution tailored for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The successful candidate will design, implement, and optimize algorithms capable of delivering accurate pose estimation under real-world UAV flight conditions, including rapid maneuvers and variable lighting. Responsibilities
- Design and develop monocular visual odometry or VIO algorithms for UAV applications
- Integrate visual odometry systems with inertial measurement units (IMUs) to enhance accuracy and robustness
- Test and validate system performance in simulated and real UAV flight scenarios, focusing on fast maneuvers and challenging lighting conditions
- Optimize algorithms for real-time processing and resource efficiency on embedded UAV hardware
- Document development process, results, and provide technical support for integration and troubleshooting
- Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and ensure deliverables meet project objectives
- Proven experience in computer vision, SLAM, or visual odometry, particularly for UAV or robotics applications
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python, with hands-on experience in relevant libraries (e.g., OpenCV, ROS, Eigen)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate and synchronize data from IMUs and camera sensors
- Solid understanding of real-time algorithm optimization and embedded system constraints
- Familiarity with UAV flight dynamics and practical challenges in aerial navigation
- Ability to work independently, communicate technical concepts clearly, and deliver results within project timelines
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
