Junior Machine Learning Engineer

Location: Hybrid (Istanbul Office) — This role requires regular in-person collaboration at our Istanbul Hub - İTÜ ARI3 Teknokent.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Junior Machine Learning Engineer who is eager to grow and contribute to the development of medical machine learning models.

In this role, you will primarily support projects involving multi-variate time-series analysis, with opportunities to expand into Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing as you grow. You will move beyond code to see the real-world impact of your work, collaborating directly with medical stakeholders to understand clinical problems and translate them into life-saving ML tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the development and improvement of Medical ML models, with a primary focus on multi-variate time-series data, gradually expanding into Computer Vision and NLP projects.
• Assist with the full model lifecycle: data preparation, model training, evaluation, and detailed error analysis.
• Collaborate with medical staff and internal stakeholders to bridge the gap between clinical needs and technical implementation.
• Help maintain and improve model-serving pipelines (e.g., APIs), monitoring basics, and production reliability.
• Contribute to experiment tracking and reproducibility (e.g., logging runs, documenting datasets, saving artifacts).
• Write and maintain clear documentation for experiments, model behavior, and project learnings.
• Take ownership of small-to-medium scoped tasks and proactively suggest improvements as you learn the system.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Programming: Solid Python skills and software fundamentals (clean code, debugging, basic testing mindset).
• ML Fundamentals: Familiarity with machine learning basics and at least one major framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Scikit-learn).
• Workflow: Solid understanding of the model development workflow: data training evaluation iteration.
• Experience: 3+ years of programming experience and 3+ years of hands-on machine learning experience (including internships, academic research, or significant personal projects).
• Soft Skills:
• Strong self-learning ability: You pick up new concepts quickly and enjoy continuous learning.
• Coachability: You actively seek feedback, apply it, and improve fast.
• Communication: Excellent communication skills in English.

NICE TO HAVE (BONUS)

• Familiarity with experiment tracking tools (e.g., Weights & Biases).
• Exposure to API development (e.g., FastAPI) and basic deployment concepts (Docker, Linux, Cloud basics).
• Any prior exposure to healthcare data, clinical terminology, CV, or NLP.
