Network Engineer – Telco (IP / Cisco)

Sydney-based | Contract | $700 + Super

Our client is seeking a Network Engineer with strong IP networking and telecommunications experience to join an established network team based in Sydney.

This role is well suited to an engineer who is confident in core IP networking and Cisco environments, and who is keen to build further exposure to network design and architecture with support from senior engineers already embedded in the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery and operation of IP-based telecommunications networks, primarily within a telco environment
  • Configure, manage, and support Cisco network devices, including routers and switches
  • Assist with network design and architecture activities, working alongside senior engineers and architects
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents to maintain stability, performance, and availability
  • Support IP routing and switching, including protocols such as OSPF and BGP
  • Participate in network maintenance, upgrades, patching, and optimisation activities
  • Monitor network performance and assist with identifying and resolving bottlenecks
  • Maintain clear and accurate documentation of network configurations and procedures
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to support operational and project requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience in IP networking within a telecommunications environment
  • Solid experience working with Cisco technologies (routers, switches, IP networks)
  • Good understanding of IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) and core networking concepts
  • Proven experience troubleshooting and supporting production networks
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take guidance from senior engineers
  • Clear communication skills and a proactive, learning-focused mindset

Desirable (Not Essential)

  • Exposure to network design or architecture activities
  • Familiarity with mobile core or large-scale IP networks
  • Experience supporting data centre or telco-grade environments
  • Cisco certifications (e.g. CCNA / CCNP)

Why This Role?

  • Opportunity to grow into network design and architecture, rather than being the sole technical authority
  • Strong in-house engineering support and knowledge sharing
  • Stable, long-term contract environment
  • Sydney-based role with a clear technical focus
  • Competitive rate for a hands-on IP Network Engineer looking to step up

If you want, next we can:

  • Make this even more junior-leaning (borderline Level 2/early Level 3)
  • Tighten it further to pure IP/Cisco/telco ops and downplay design even more
  • Convert it directly into a SEEK or LinkedIn-optimised version with keyword weighting

Just tell me how hard you want to pull that “step-up” lever.
