EWT is a global designer and manufacturer of direct-drive wind turbines, active in Europe, North America, and Asia. EWT was established in 2004 and is based in the Netherlands. The company offers a broad product portfolio of onshore direct-drive wind turbines.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Power Electronics Engineer to join our team in Amersfoort. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of converters and inverters for our wind turbines. You will play a critical role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our renewable energy solutions. This role demands expertise in power electronics, electronic designs (schematics), and simulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize power electronic circuits and systems, including boost converter, step-down converter, and three-phase inverter.
- Deign electronic schematics, perform simulations and create PCB layouts using OrCAD or similar software design tools.
- Optimize PCB designs to enhance efficiency, performance, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness
- Ensure PCB designs meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental conditions specific to renewable energy applications.
- Define PCB test requirements, design test setups, and perform tests to ensure compliance with design requirements.
- Developing embedded software using C or C++
- Plan, coordinate, and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for power converter cabinets to ensure they meet design specifications and performance criteria before deployment.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and performance reports.
- Define test requirements and conduct tests for integrating our inverter technology with power electronic devices from other manufacturers
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
- Understanding how power electronics work, based on a few examples like boost converter, step down converter, and three-phase inverter.
- Ability to design electronic schematics and to design PCB layouts using OrCAD or similar software.
- Ability to read a PCB schematic and to propose/discuss alternatives for the design.
- Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar.
- Ability to program in C and to discuss a piece of C code,
- Familiarity with renewable energy systems and microgrids is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in German and /or Dutch is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and validation of power converter systems.
- Experience with XE169 and XMC4700 microcontrollers
- Fluent in English, with German or any additional language being advantageous.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with occasional visits to manufacturing facilities and wind turbine/microgrid sites for testing and troubleshooting.
- Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and control engineers.
