About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Android Developer/Engineer to join our dynamic Apps team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing, testing, and maintaining features for The Guardian's Android application, ensuring a fast, stable, and user-centric experience. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including iOS, server-side, and web engineers, as well as designers, product managers, and editorial colleagues. Your contributions will directly impact how millions of users access and engage with our journalism, helping us uphold our reputation for excellence in digital media.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Android development, primarily using Kotlin, with familiarity in Java. You will be involved in making strategic technical decisions, reviewing code, and contributing to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include designing, developing, and implementing new features for The Guardian's Android app, as well as maintaining and improving existing functionalities. You will participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards and best practices. Collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams, you will contribute to technical discussions, product planning, and decision-making processes, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
You will also be involved in testing and debugging to deliver a seamless experience to users, and you will actively seek innovative solutions to enhance app performance and stability. Contributing to the continuous improvement of development processes and participating in regular hack days to foster creativity and innovation are integral parts of this role.
