ABOUT THE ROLE


An exciting opportunity is available for a passionate and driven Media Coordinator to join our Media & Communications Department. A perfect place to kick start your career in the AFL.


In this role, you will manage the day-to-day media activity across our AFL and AFLW programs, working closely with sports media to manage requests and proactively create positive coverage that showcases and promotes the AFL & AFLW teams.


Based at the MCG, the role will also involve regular travel to Casey Fields and AAMI Park, offering exposure across multiple elite sporting facilities.


This is a full-time, 12-month maternity leave cover position.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


Reporting directly to the General Manger – Media & Communications, the key areas of responsibilities will include:


  • Assist with facilitating all AFL media enquiries and briefing spokespeople, including players and coaches
  • Manage all AFLW media enquiries and briefing of AFLW spokespeople, including players and coaches
  • Act as the primary contact for all AFLW broadcast and match-day media requests
  • Craft media releases, and written content for the club’s website when required
  • Assist with the coordination of media for the AFL program– organising media conferences, broadcasts headshots
  • Assist with and running AFL & AFLW media conferences
  • Tracking club and player media commitments, monitoring issues, and completing other admin tasks when required
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships throughout sport media and general news media
  • Assisting with the VFL and VFLW coordination of media in the VFL and VFLW program when required
  • Assist the GM – Media & Communications with overall club messaging, including the execution of weekly media plans
  • With guidance from the GM – Media & Communications, help deliver the club’s communication strategy across both football related initiatives


THE IDEAL CANDIDATE


You are a self-motivated individual, with proven industry experience in Sports Media and communications ideally working in the industry with a tertiary qualification in Media, Communications and/or Journalism. You are someone who has had at least 1-2 years experience in a similar role.


You are known for your strong work ethic, love to take initiative and thrive in building positive and collaborative relationships across the organisation. You are committed to achieving excellence working as part of a high-performing team. You will be able to effectively manage competing priorities and pride yourself on your attention to detail and exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.


You are passionate about the AFL and understand the game and its fans. It is essential you are available to work outside of business hours including match days and weekends.
