Role overview
The role blends product‑strategy leadership with a deep understanding of digital lending. Someone to define product vision, strategy and roadmap, conduct market research, work cross‑functionally, and monitor performance to make data‑driven improvements. The product‑manager will gather requirements, oversee development, run beta tests and coordinate the product launch. Our position adapts these responsibilities to a travel‑finance context and requires expertise in credit/BNPL products.
Short‑term goals (project inception to launch)
In the first 6–12 months, the product manager will be responsible for taking our flight‑financing concept from idea to public launch. Key responsibilities include:
Market research and feasibility analysis
- Investigate customer demand for instalments, deffered payments and buy‑now‑pay‑later (BNPL) options in the travel market, analyze competitor products, and assess regulatory constraints across key geographies.
- Identify target customer segments, payment behaviors and potential partners (banks/fintech lenders).
- Develop the product’s financial model (pricing, interest rates, risk assumptions).
Define product vision, strategy and roadmap
- Establish a clear product vision that aligns with corporate objectives and customer needs
- Set short‑term milestones (MVP definition, pilot launch, full go‑live) and key performance indicators (e.g., adoption rate, approval rate, first‑payment default rate).
- Prioritize features such as credit‑assessment engine, instalment scheduling, payment reminder system, and integration with booking flow.
Cross‑functional leadership & stakeholder management
- Assemble and lead an agile project team (engineering, UX/UI, risk, legal, compliance, marketing) and oversee development processes and coordinate with teams to ensure timely delivery
- Collaborate with finance and risk teams to design underwriting criteria, decision rules and repayment controls.
- Liaise with external lenders, payment processors and acquirers to integrate BNPL/instalment solutions and ensure adherence to regulatory standards
Product design and development
- Translate business requirements into user stories and functional specifications; manage the backlog and prioritize sprints.
- Work closely with designers to create intuitive checkout flows for financing options; ensure the experience is seamless on web and mobile.
- Oversee implementation of payment orchestration, credit scoring, risk models and customer support flows.
- Plan and execute product testing, including internal QA and beta programs, gathering feedback before launch
Go‑to‑market and launch coordination
- Collaborate with marketing and sales to craft messaging, promotional campaigns and educational materials explaining deferred‑payment benefits.
- Act as internal enablement & awareness Lead. Not only train customer‑support teams on financing product features and policies but also spearhead internal promotion and awareness campaigns so that colleagues across sales, marketing, and operations understand the offering’s benefits, workflows, and key talking points.
- Develop compliance and customer‑communication templates (terms of service, disclosures) in line with lending regulations.
Long‑term goals (post‑launch & business‑as‑usual)
After the initial launch, the product manager will own the product’s performance and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include:
Portfolio and performance management
- Monitor daily and weekly metrics: approval rate, conversion rate, average ticket value uplift, delinquency/default rates, repeat usage and portfolio profitability and analyze metrics like user engagement, customer satisfaction and retention
- Balance growth with risk by adjusting credit policies, pricing, down‑payment percentages and repayment terms.
- Implement data‑driven enhancements to optimize revenue and customer satisfaction.
- Prepare regular performance reports for senior management.
Customer journey & experience optimization
- Map and continuously improve the end‑to‑end customer journey—from application and approval through repayment and repeat purchase.
- Use analytics and customer feedback to identify pain points and refine user flows, repayment reminders and support processes.
- Work with CX/UX teams to personalize offers and provide clear, transparent communication about interest rates, fees and payment schedules.
Risk management & compliance
- Stay current on lending regulations (e.g., CFPB rules in the U.S., EU consumer credit directives) and ensure that the product’s terms, disclosures and marketing comply with all applicable laws.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to update policies as regulations evolve.
- Manage credit‑risk strategies, partnering with data‑science teams to refine scoring models and fraud‑prevention algorithms.
Product iteration & expansion
- Identify opportunities to expand financing to ancillary services (e.g., hotels, car rentals) or new markets.
- Conduct A/B tests on pricing, repayment schedules and incentives; launch pilots to validate hypotheses and scale successful features.
- Explore partnerships with different lenders or payment networks to enhance reach and reduce funding costs.
Cross‑functional & external stakeholder management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams (finance, risk, collections, IT, customer service) and external partners (banks, card networks, regulators).
- Serve as the primary liaison with external lending partners and/or BNPL platforms, nurturing partnerships, negotiating improved terms and features, and collaboratively enhancing the customer financing offering.
- Ongoing enablement & advocacy: Maintain regular training and internal awareness campaigns so that customer support, sales, marketing and other teams stay current on financing features, policy changes and best practices—ensuring the product remains well‑understood and championed throughout the organization.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, data‑sharing and continuous improvement.
- Present product updates, performance results and strategic recommendations to executives and stakeholders.
Required experience & qualifications
- Education & background: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, computer science or related field; advanced degree a plus.
- Product‑management expertise: 5+ years of experience managing digital financial/lending products (BNPL, instalment loans or other credit products). Experience taking a product from concept to launch and maturity is essential.
