Senior Java Engineer (Contract), Amsterdam

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Java Engineer to join a highly collaborative, product-driven team in Amsterdam on a contract basis. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys owning solutions end-to-end, influencing technical direction, and mentoring others.

What you’ll be doing:

• Collaborate with the Product Owner, CJEs, and Engineers to translate business requirements into high-value technical solutions
• Design and deliver features that create real, measurable business impact
• Influence technology choices and contribute to the architecture of newly developed components and services
• Conduct meaningful code reviews, focusing on business outcomes and high-level design
• Foster a collaborative, learning-driven team culture

Must-have experience

• Java 21+ and Spring Boot
• Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Hexagonal Architecture
• Strong, hands-on Kafka expertise
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven experience mentoring fellow engineers

Nice to have

• Infrastructure & DevOps exposure (e.g. Azure, CI/CD pipelines, certificates)
• Cassandra
• Observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK
