Role:

Senior / Lead Power BI Engineer

Job Description:

We are looking for a Senior / Lead Power BI Engineer who will own the design, development, and governance of scalable Power BI solutions. This role requires strong expertise in semantic modeling, DAX, Power BI architecture, and close collaboration with data engineering and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

• Design and maintain scalable Power BI architectures (datasets, semantic models, reports, deployment pipelines)
• Build and optimize Power BI semantic models / tabular datasets for enterprise and self-service analytics
• Develop advanced DAX measures with strong focus on performance, readability, and business logic accuracy
• Own data modeling best practices (star schema, snowflake, role-playing dimensions, time intelligence)
• Write and optimize SQL queries for data extraction, validation, and performance tuning
• Partner with data engineering teams on data ingestion, transformation, and optimization
• Define and enforce Power BI governance standards (naming conventions, documentation, RLS, version control)
• Troubleshoot performance issues across models, reports, and refresh processes
• Act as a technical and client-facing lead, translating business requirements into scalable BI solutions
• Mentor BI developers and analysts; provide architectural guidance and reviews

Technical Skills:

• Strong experience with Power BI (datasets, tabular models, semantic layer design)
• Advanced DAX and performance optimization
• Solid dimensional data modelling expertise
• Strong SQL skills
• Power BI security (RLS, workspace permissions)
• Data visualization best practices and storytelling

Leadership & Client Skills

• Proven experience leading BI teams or acting as a technical lead
• Comfortably working directly with business stakeholders and clients
• Strong communication skills — able to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences
• Ability to manage expectations, priorities, and delivery timelines
• Collaborative mindset with product, engineering, and leadership teams

Nice to have

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric / Azure (Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake)
• CI/CD for Power BI, deployment pipelines, Git integration
• Experience with self-service BI frameworks
• Familiarity with data governance and compliance
