Role & What’s in it for the applicant and why would they apply?:

This is a resident network engineering role, embedded onsite at a large public sector body, supporting a critical environment where stability, reliability, and calm troubleshooting really matter.

You’ll be the on-the-ground network specialist, working closely with IT teams to keep the network running smoothly. This isn’t project hopping or consultancy work — it’s about owning the estate, understanding it deeply, and being the trusted technical presence onsite.

The environment is 100% Extreme Networks, making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in Extreme Fabric, WLAN, and software-defined networking within a real-world enterprise setting.

Responsibilities:

• Act as the resident network engineer onsite.

• Provide day-to-day support across the LAN, WLAN, and network services estate.

• Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents in a calm, methodical manner.

• Support Extreme Fabric and Edge network environments.

• Assist with network monitoring, fault resolution, and minor change activities.

• Work closely with IT teams, third parties, and the MSP delivery team.

• Maintain documentation and contribute to operational best practices.

• Ensure network stability in a mission-critical healthcare environment.

Skills / Must Have:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a network engineering or network support role.

• Strong LAN switching and routing fundamentals.

• Experience or solid understanding of Extreme Networks technologies, including:

– Extreme Fabric and Edge (EXoS, VOSS)

– Extreme WLAN solutions (CloudIQ, ECC)

– Extreme software platforms (NAC, A3, XMC, Analytics)

• Good knowledge of LAN protocols including Layer 2, Layer 3, OSPF, BGP, and Fabric concepts.

• Working understanding of firewall technologies (Cisco, Palo Alto, Forcepoint).

• Comfortable working 5 days per week onsite in Rotherham.

• Strong communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach.

Nice to Have:

• Previous experience working in healthcare, public sector, or regulated environments.

• Experience in a resident engineer or MSP onsite role.

• Exposure to ITIL-style service environments.

Benefits:

• Embedded role with clear ownership of a live enterprise network.

• Opportunity to specialise deeply in Extreme Networks technologies.

• Stable, long-term environment supporting essential public services.

• Backing and support from a wider MSP engineering team.

Salary:

• Up to £55,000 per annum, depending on experience (final confirmation pending).
