About the Role

The Client is seeking an experienced Scrum Master to support digital transformation, service innovation, and modernization initiatives led by the Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) Division. This role supports cross-functional delivery teams working on agile product development, program reviews, and human-centered digital services that improve outcomes for Albertans.

The Scrum Master will play a critical role in enabling agile delivery by coaching teams, removing delivery obstacles, facilitating agile ceremonies, and promoting transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement across multiple initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Delivery & Team Enablement

  • Lead and mentor cross-functional delivery teams in Agile and Scrum principles
  • Facilitate all core agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and product demonstrations
  • Coach teams on estimation techniques, sprint commitments, dependency management, and delivery forecasting
  • Remove impediments and proactively address risks that may impact sprint outcomes

Product & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Act as a trusted delivery partner to Government of Alberta Product Owners
  • Support release planning, roadmap development, and progress reporting
  • Serve as an intermediary between product owners and delivery teams to ensure alignment and clarity of priorities
  • Promote transparency and effective communication across stakeholders

Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain and report on delivery metrics such as velocity, burndown, and backlog health
  • Prepare and present progress updates and delivery insights as directed by the Province
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability
  • Participate in digital service delivery activities, including user research and usability testing


Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

  • Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent certification
  • Minimum 12-15+ years of experience working in Agile delivery environments
  • Minimum 10 years of experience facilitating Agile ceremonies
  • Proven experience coaching teams on Agile methodologies and continuous improvement
  • Hands-on experience with Agile backlog management tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile best practices
  • Experience delivering training sessions using virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams)
  • Public sector experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working with teams applying UX, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design approaches


Work Model & Location

  • Role is primarily remote
  • Onsite attendance in Edmonton may be required for meetings or workshops (up to several times per month)
  • Province reserves the right to modify work arrangements with reasonable notice
  • Some travel within Alberta may be required for user research or field activities

  • Enhanced or higher-level security clearances may be required depending on assignment
  • Acceptance is subject to written approval by the Province following clearance validation
