We’re looking for a Data Team Lead to lead a team of 6 Data Engineers, combining deep technical delivery with leadership, mentorship, and strategic influence.
This is a true 50/50 role where you’ll remain hands-on technically while acting as the team’s internal lead, technical authority, and subject matter expert across data engineering and platform architecture.
You’ll shape how data is built, moved, governed, and scaled across projects, while developing a strong, modern engineering culture.
What You’ll Be Doing - Technical (50%):
- Designing and building scalable data pipelines and platforms
- Hands-on development across ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and modelling
- Owning technical standards, architecture decisions, and best practices
- Driving performance, reliability, and data quality improvements
- Leading technical problem-solving on complex data challenges
Leadership & Strategy (50%):
- Leading and mentoring a team of 6 Data Engineers
- Acting as internal technical authority and SME for data engineering
- Partnering with product, analytics, and business teams
- Setting engineering direction, priorities, and delivery standards
- Supporting hiring, onboarding, and team growth
- Translating business needs into scalable technical solutions
What We’re Looking For
Core experience:
- Strong background in data engineering in production environments
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers (formal or informal leadership)
- Proven ability to balance hands-on delivery with leadership responsibility
Technical skills (not all required, but relevant):
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Data warehouses / lakes (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, etc.)
- ETL/ELT tooling and orchestration (Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, etc.)
- SQL and Python
- Modern data architecture and platform design
Leadership traits:
- Trusted technical decision-maker
- Strong communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Calm under pressure, structured thinker, delivery-focused
- Passion for building strong engineering culture
