The Client’s Digital Design And Delivery Team Is The Centre Of Excellence For Modern Digital Delivery. This Team Partners With Internal Ministries And Stakeholders To Deliver High-quality Digital Services Using

  • Agile delivery methods
  • Modern data and technology practices

Role Overview

The Scrum Master will work as part of cross-functional program review and product delivery teams, led by Product Owners and supported by the digital delivery team. These teams collaborate across the full delivery lifecycle, including:

  • User and field research
  • Backlog definition and refinement
  • Sprint planning, execution, and review

The Scrum Master is responsible for enabling effective agile delivery, removing impediments, mentoring teams, and ensuring transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Leadership and Delivery

  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams in agile principles, practices, and continuous improvement
  • Facilitate core agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews and demos, retrospectives, and backlog refinement (plus ad hoc sessions as needed)
  • Coach teams on estimation, sprint commitments, dependency management, and removing blockers
  • Support teams in meeting sprint goals and delivery commitments

Product Owner and Stakeholder Support

  • Act as an intermediary between Product Owners and delivery teams
  • Guide Product Owners on release planning, roadmapping, reporting, and forecasting

Reporting and Metrics

  • Maintain and report delivery metrics using agile artifacts and tools such as sprint burndown and velocity charts, product backlogs, and sprint backlogs
  • Provide progress and quality updates to the client as required

Service Design Participation

  • Participate in digital service delivery activities such as user research, usability testing, and field research (as required)

Location and Work Arrangement

  • Primarily remote
  • Occasional in-person meetings in Edmonton with reasonable notice

– Travel time and expenses to Edmonton are not reimbursed

  • Some travel within Alberta may be required for field research and user interviews

– Travel arrangements for research may be provided by the client at no cost

The client reserves the right to adjust work arrangements with reasonable notice.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM) certification
  • 5+ years of experience working in an agile development environment
  • 4+ years of experience facilitating agile ceremonies
  • 2+ years of experience coaching teams on agile methodologies

Nice to Have

  • Public sector experience (2+ years)
  • Experience working with UX, service design, or design-led teams (2+ years)
  • Experience with agile backlog management tools (2+ years)
  • Experience planning work aligned to Product Owner priorities (2+ years)
  • Experience delivering training via virtual tools such as Microsoft Teams
  • Strong understanding of software development processes and best practices (5+ years)
