AWS DevOps Engineer
Contract | ASAP Start - End Date 31/07/2026 (extension available)
Fully Remote
BPSS Eligible Required
We are supporting a long-term programme to modernise a legacy healthcare platform, moving from a traditional PHP-based application to a cloud-native, largely serverless architecture on AWS.
We are looking for a Senior AWS DevOps Engineer who is comfortable getting deep into infrastructure, pipelines and security, and who has previously worked in regulated healthcare environments.
This is a hands-on engineering role rather than a high-level advisory position. You will be expected to design, build, improve and operate the platform day to day.
Key responsibilities
Cloud architecture and platform engineering
- Re-platform a legacy PHP application to a modern AWS environment with a strong serverless bias
- Design and operate workloads across AWS services including EKS, Lambda, Aurora, DynamoDB, EC2, S3 and API Gateway
- Support containerised workloads running on EKS, including cluster configuration, scaling and upgrades
- Ensure high availability, performance and cost efficiency across all environments
Infrastructure as Code
- Design, build and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Manage AWS resources such as networking, IAM, compute, storage and databases via reusable Terraform modules
- Support environment parity across Development, Test and Production
- Drive cost optimisation and scalable infrastructure patterns
CI/CD and automation
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Automate build, test and deployment processes for application and infrastructure changes
- Improve pipeline reliability, reduce manual steps and minimise deployment risk
- Support blue green or rolling deployment strategies where appropriate
Security and compliance
- Integrate security scanning into CI/CD pipelines using SAST tools such as SonarCloud and Gitleaks
- Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities early in the development lifecycle
- Work within healthcare and BPSS-related security constraints
- Contribute to improving security posture, IAM policies and secrets management
Testing and quality
- Support automated testing strategies across Development and Test environments
- Ensure infrastructure and application changes are validated before promotion
- Work closely with engineering teams to proactively identify and resolve issues
- Support agile delivery practices with fast feedback loops
Required experience
- Mid to Senior level AWS DevOps or Platform Engineer
- Strong hands-on AWS experience across both serverless and containerised workloads
- Solid Terraform experience in production environments
- Strong CI/CD experience, ideally using GitHub Actions
- Experience integrating security tooling into pipelines
- Previous experience working in the healthcare sector
- Comfortable working in regulated environments with formal security processes
