What does a Graduate Developer do at NextGen?

As a Graduate Developer at NextGen, you will join a collaborative engineering team to learn, build and deploy production software. You will translate product requirements into reliable code, participate in peer code reviews, and assist with testing and troubleshooting to help maintain a high-quality codebase. This role is designed for recent graduates or entry-level developers keen to accelerate their career in fintech.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain scalable, secure and efficient software using modern programming languages and frameworks under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Write clean, maintainable code and unit tests following best practices and coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, accept and provide constructive feedback, and work closely with product managers, designers and QA to deliver features on time.
  • Troubleshoot, debug and help resolve production issues; contribute to incident reviews and follow-up actions.
  • Engage in mentoring, training and hands-on learning to grow technical skills and understanding of the development lifecycle and CI/CD practices.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or similar.
  • Basic understanding of web frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue) and RESTful API concepts would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Understanding of version control systems (particularly Git) and an interest in CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
