Founding Engineer - Agentic AI

A high-growth, pre-seed AI startup in healthcare is hiring a Founding Senior Software AI Engineer to help scale its AI platform. The product is already live in sites across the UK and Ireland. This is a true founding-level role: you’ll work directly with the founding team, own major systems end-to-end alongside the CTO, and help define how AI agents are designed, deployed, and iterated in production.

Role summary

You’ll be a senior, hands-on engineer responsible for building scalable backend systems and deploying applied AI capabilities (LLMs, agentic workflows, voice + messaging). You’ll operate with high autonomy and strong product ownership.

Key responsibilities

• Build and scale backend services in Python (AWS)
• Own production integrations (telephony/voice, WhatsApp, email)
• Develop and improve LLM agent workflows (frameworks a plus)
• Implement reliability, monitoring, evaluation and QA practices
• Work end-to-end: scoping, delivery, deployment and iteration
• Collaborate directly with founders on product and technical direction

Requirements

• 3-5+ years software engineering experience in industry (Python)
• Strong AWS experience (production systems)
• Real exposure to AI/LLM systems in industry (not purely academic)
• Independent, proactive, high ownership mindset
• Strong communication and stakeholder skills
• Computer science degree preferred

Nice to have

• Experience with LangGraph / agent frameworks
• Twilio / voice systems / communications tooling
• WhatsApp / messaging platform integrations
• Start-up experience or strong side projects showing “spikes”
