Head of Engineering - Next.js / Azure – Amsterdam [100k + stock]

Are you experienced in managing team, but also still happy to write POC’s and doing code reviews? Ready to take technical leadership and elevate a development team to the next level? And do you get energy from designing scalable architectures and streamlining development processes in a complex, international tech environment?

My client is a fast-growing, international scale-up that provides secure network connections as a service (Network-as-a-Service) worldwide. They operate at the intersection of network technology and software development. The heart of their operation is an advanced customer portal (built in Next.js) that allows customers to manage their global network. You will join a compact but growing development team where you report directly to the management. The tech stack is modern and diverse, with a core of Next.js, Postgres, and Python, fully hosted on Azure. They are looking for a 'working foreman' who not only defines the roadmap and makes architectural decisions but also gets hands-on.

Your profile:

• Minimum 7+ years of experience in software engineering
• Experience in managing teams and being part of MT
• Experience with designing and building scalable web apps in production
• Strong background in JavaScript/TypeScript
• Experience with Node/React/Vue (Next.js, is a big plus)
• Experience with setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• You are a 'working foreman': you can lead a team, but you also enjoy diving into the code yourself (approximately 50/50 split in the long term)

Furthermore:

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure (experience with AWS/GCP is a good foundation)
• Knowledge of containerization with Docker. Knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus, but not a requirement
• Experience with data migrations (specifically from NoSQL to SQL) is a strong plus, given the upcoming migration from Firebase to Postgres
• You have a strong vision on architecture and can translate this into a concrete roadmap and technical solutions
