Ready to build the data foundation powering the future of online fashion?

We’re looking for a self-starting Data Engineer to shape, scale, and optimise Otrium’s modern data platform. You’ll work at the heart of our data ecosystem — designing strong data models, improving data quality, and enabling analytics, personalisation, and machine learning across the company.

You won’t just maintain pipelines — you’ll build the future of how Otrium leverages data to drive smarter decisions and personalised experiences.

Your Impact

  • As our Data Engineer, you’ll be a key builder behind Otrium’s data ecosystem. You’ll develop high-quality data pipelines, own our transformation layer, and ensure reliable, scalable data foundations for commercial, product, marketing, supply chain, and data products teams.
  • You’ll work extensively within our state-of-the-art stack — Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, and Hightouch — and collaborate closely with analytics, data products, engineering, and business stakeholders to bring clean, trustworthy, actionable data to everyone at Otrium.
  • You’ll report to the Lead Data Engineer and play a key role in evolving Otrium’s data architecture, infrastructure, and best practices.

Your Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Modeling

  • Develop, own and evolve Otrium’s data models in dbt, ensuring scalability, performance, and clear documentation.
  • Design high-quality ELT structures that enable powerful analytics and downstream applications.

Pipelines & Infrastructure

  • Build, monitor, and optimise data pipelines using Fivetran, Databricks, and SQL/Python.
  • Ensure reliable ingestion from internal and external sources, fixing issues before they impact the business.

Quality, Reliability & Governance

  • Implement strong testing, validation, and observability practices across all pipelines and models.
  • Champion data quality and consistency across the organisation.

Data Integrations & Reverse ETL

  • Leverage Hightouch to operationalise data and support teams with customer-facing activations such as CRM enrichment and personalisation.

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Partner with marketing, commercial, finance, supply chain, product, and engineering teams to understand requirements and translate them into robust, scalable data solutions.
  • Support analysts and data scientists with well-structured datasets, documentation, and tooling best practices.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve data workflows.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our platform architecture, helping us stay ahead of the curve with modern data technologies.

Job requirements

Must-Have Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Data Engineer, preferably in a modern data-stack environment.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with experience in building and optimising complex transformations.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks or similar Spark-based platforms.
  • Knowledge of APIs, ETL/ELT patterns, and data warehouse architecture.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, testing, and performance optimisation.
  • Familiarity with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices for data.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Solid understanding of data ingestion tools (ideally Fivetran) and data activation tools (ideally Hightouch).
  • Experience working with dbt for data modeling and transformations.
  • Experience with PySpark and distributed processing.
  • Exposure to event-based architectures or streaming.
  • Familiarity with GDPR and data compliance standards.
  • Experience in e-commerce, fashion, or high-growth scale-ups.

Personality & Ways of Working

  • A commercial mindset: you understand how data drives business growth.
  • Strong collaborator with great stakeholder management and an ownership mentality.
  • Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent communicator in English (Dutch is a plus).
  • Available to work on-site in Amsterdam at least two days per week.

Job benefits

  • A nice base salary (incl. 8% holiday allowance)
  • A SAR package to share in Otrium success
  • 25 days paid holiday per year - plus a day off on your birthday
  • 8 weeks Workation option
  • An open, spacious, plant-filled office on the waterside in the Houthavens
  • Delicious office lunches
  • Mental and physical health support via a ClassPass gym subscription discount and free, unlimited access to OpenUp
  • And, of course, an Otrium employee discount!
