Project Director

We have partnered with a renewable energy developer in Stockholm to source an experienced freelance project director to lead the delivery of a combined BESS and solar PV project from development through to commissioning. This role suits a senior professional with a strong track record in utility‑scale energy projects, deep understanding of Nordic grid requirements, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a fast‑moving environment.

Location: Stockholm, Sweden (hybrid with on‑site presence during key phases)

Contract Length: 12 months

Rate: 900-1100 euros per day

Start Date: March 2026

Main Responsibilities

• Direct all phases of the BESS and Solar PV project lifecycle, including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Serve as the primary point of accountability for project performance, schedule, budget, and risk management.
• Lead weekly project governance meetings and ensure transparent reporting to senior stakeholders.
• Oversee engineering deliverables for both PV and BESS systems, ensuring compliance with Swedish and EU standards.
• Coordinate grid‑connection studies and manage interactions with Svenska kraftnät and local DSOs.
• Manage relationships with EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, consultants, and permitting authorities.
• Negotiate commercial terms, oversee contract execution, and ensure adherence to performance guarantees.
• Collaborate with environmental, permitting, and land‑use specialists to secure all required approvals.
• Develop and maintain the master project schedule, identifying critical paths and mitigation strategies.

Key Skills

• 10+ years of experience delivering utility‑scale renewable energy or grid‑connected infrastructure projects.
• Proven leadership of Solar PV and/or BESS projects, ideally in the Nordic region.
• Strong understanding of Swedish permitting processes, environmental regulations, and grid‑connection requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage EPC contractors and complex technical interfaces.
• Excellent communication skills in English
• Engineering, energy, or project management degree (or equivalent experience).
