Network Engineer

On behalf of our public sector client, we are looking for a Network Engineer Specialist for a 1-year contract with a possible extension of up to 2 additional years. This is a hybrid position requiring eight (8) on-site days per month in Ottawa, On.

Project Context:

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Network and Storage Services, the selected candidate will support critical network infrastructure initiatives, focusing on operational excellence, evergreening, and ensuring robust operational support.

Responsibilities:

• Play a pivotal role in the operational team, addressing evergreening and providing ongoing support.
• Resolve complex, cross-functional technical issues promptly.
• Participate in planning and executing testing for production deployment validation, performance, failover, vulnerability remediation, and disaster recovery.
• Analyze current network solutions to identify areas for improvement, focusing on simplification and continuous enhancement.
• Define and implement upgrades and changes to address operational problems or new business requirements.
• Support troubleshooting activities in production and non-production environments.
• Perform additional related activities and deliverables as required.

Must-Have Skills and Experience:

• At least five (5) years of experience in testing, operations, development, or integration within network management environments.
• Proficiency with Cisco switching and routing platforms (Cisco 9K, 9300s, 6508, and APIC) with a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience.
• Proven knowledge and practical experience in IT operations, including operational challenges and capabilities.
• Ability to contribute to development processes, supporting continuous integration and deployment.
• Experience with scalable and highly available service-oriented architectures.
• Familiarity with Agile methodology and its application in network operations.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

• Experience working with Cisco NCS 5500 series.
• Hands-on experience with ServiceNow for IT service management.
• Experience with F5 load balancers.
• Familiarity with Cisco ASA and/or Firepower technologies.
