The role

We’re hiring an experienced Backend Engineer with strong Linux, Python, and database engineering skills to design, build, and maintain a self-hosted PostgreSQL environment supporting long-running, parallelised HPC workloads.

You’ll work closely with R&D and senior technical leadership on data models and ETL pipelines powering an AI-driven crystal structure prediction platform.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and maintain self-hosted PostgreSQL infrastructure
• Configure and scale databases for parallel HPC workloads
• Own backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and data integrity
• Define schemas, tables, permissions, and access controls
• Contribute to ETL pipeline design and implementation in Python

What we are looking for

• 3+ years experience in database design, management, backup, recovery, and observability(e.g. Prometheus, Alembic, Barman, Databasus)
• Strong PostgreSQL or MySQL experience (incl. self-hosting)
• Solid Linux systems background
• Container experience (Docker, Podman)
• Strong Python fundamentals and software design principles
• Clear communicator with an ownership mindset

Bonus

• ETL orchestration tools (Prefect, Dagster, Airflow)
• Parallel computing or schedulers (OpenMP, MPI, SLURM)
