Network Engineer – L2 (Job Description) Role Overview The Network Engineer – L2 is responsible for providing second-level support for network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security of enterprise networks. The role involves troubleshooting, configuration, and maintenance of network devices and collaboration with L1 and L3 teams. Key Responsibilities • Provide L2 support for LAN, WAN, WLAN, and data center networks. • Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents escalated from L1 support. • Configure, monitor, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and access points. • Manage VLANs, trunking, STP, EtherChannel, and basic routing protocols. • Handle firewall rule changes, NAT, and VPN (site-to-site and remote access). • Monitor network performance and availability using monitoring tools. • Perform network changes, upgrades, and patching as per change management processes. • Document network configurations, procedures, and incident resolutions. • Work closely with vendors and service providers for issue resolution. • Ensure compliance with security standards and organizational policies. Technical Skills • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, OSI model, DNS, DHCP, and NAT. • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, HP, or similar network devices. • Knowledge of switching (VLAN, STP, RSTP, MST) and routing (OSPF, BGP – basic). • Experience with firewall technologies (Cisco ASA, FortiGate, Palo Alto – preferred). • Basic knowledge of wireless technologies (802.11 standards). • Familiarity with network monitoring and ticketing tools. • Understanding of ITIL processes and change management. Qualifications & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (preferred). • 3–5 years of experience in network support or operations. • Relevant certifications such as CCNA/CCNP or equivalent are a plus. • Experience working in enterprise or service provider environments. Soft Skills • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. • Good communication and documentation abilities. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. • Willingness to work in shifts or on-call support when required
