We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Product Design team in Amsterdam, focused on shaping user-centered experiences for our Trains Business Unit, a rapidly growing part of Trip’s product portfolio. You will work closely with our Trains team at HQ, collaborating across time zones and regions to define and deliver high-impact design solutions.
This role requires a deep understanding of UK train users, their behaviours, and expectations, as Trains is a key growth driver in the UK market. You’ll translate user insights, business goals, and market trends into intuitive and delightful experiences for UK travellers while collaborating closely with the EU and global teams.
Our Design Culture
We recently established our EU Design organisation, and this role will help shape its foundation and direction.
Our goal is to raise the bar for design excellence in Europe and strengthen brand perception by transforming Trip into a desirable, trusted, and enjoyable product that users genuinely like to use. Design at Trip is a strategic function, not just how the product looks, but how it works, feels, and earns user trust.
We believe great design is:
- User-centered and insight-driven, grounded in research, data, and cultural understanding
- End-to-end, with strong ownership from discovery through delivery
- Collaborative, built in close partnership with product, engineering, and business teams
- High-quality and intentional, balancing craft, speed, and impact
As part of the EU Design org, you’ll contribute to defining our design principles, standards, and ways of working, while collaborating closely with global teams to deliver a cohesive and differentiated product experience.
In this Role, you’ll get to:
End-to-End Product Design Ownership
- Lead design projects for Trains from discovery through delivery, including UX/UI, prototyping, validation, and developer handoff. * Translate business goals, user needs, and market insights, especially UK-specific train travel behaviors into actionable, impactful design solutions.
- Conduct user research (interviews, usability testing, surveys) and synthesize insights to inform design strategy.
- Create wireframes, high-fidelity UI, interactions, and prototypes, balancing usability, aesthetics, and feasibility.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure quality implementation and smooth handoff.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with PMs, Engineers, Data, Marketing, and Trains stakeholders in HQ to shape product direction.
- Communicate design rationale using research, data, and user insights, with a focus on UK traveler needs and preferences.
- Share progress, risks, and trade-offs to maintain alignment and timely delivery.
- Advocate for user-centered outcomes in complex or ambiguous contexts.
Design System & Quality
- Contribute to and maintain a scalable global design system.
- Uphold visual, interaction, and accessibility standards, with particular attention to European and UK-specific requirements.
- Balance speed and craft in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality.
What you'll Need to Succeed
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer on large-scale, consumer-facing digital products, preferably with some exposure to travel or marketplace products.
- Proven experience owning end-to-end design processes, from discovery through delivery and iteration.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating: User-centered problem solving, business impact and outcomes (supported by data or metrics) and high-quality UX, UI, interaction, and visual design.
- Solid experience working in cross-functional, agile product teams.
- Strong communication skills: able to present design decisions clearly to designers, engineers, product leaders, and executives.
- High proficiency with Figma and other prototyping workflows.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity.
- Good understanding of UK train users, their behaviors, and travel expectations.
Nice to have
- Experience living in the UK or using its train system extensively.
- Experience working in travel, marketplace, or international consumer products.
- Familiarity with European UX standards, accessibility guidelines, and localisation challenges.
- Experience contributing to or scaling a design system.
- Comfort working closely with data (analytics, experiments, usability metrics) to inform design decisions.
