Senior AI Engineer (LLM & Conversational Systems)
Background
Within the Marketing Performance domain, we are building a conversational AI assistant designed to help marketers interact with visitation data and, over time, broader performance metrics.
An MVP is already live, supported by a small core team consisting of a Data Science Advisor and an AI Engineer. As we move beyond the pilot phase, we are now focused on evolving this tool into a reliable, scalable assistant embedded within the wider digital ecosystem.
This is an opportunity to join early in the journey - helping define the technical direction, improve reasoning capabilities, expand data integration, and shape how conversational AI supports marketing workflows in practice.
The Role
You will join a small, collaborative squad to design and implement the next phase of our conversational agent. This includes:
- Collaborative Development: Partnering with AI and Data Science colleagues to refine agent logic, improve prompt design, and optimise data retrieval strategies
- Technical Exploration: Evaluating and testing different architectural approaches (eg, expanding data scope, improving summarisation techniques, experimenting with RAG-based systems)
- Scaling the MVP: Evolving the solution from basic visitation summaries to a more robust, production-ready assistant capable of handling increasing complexity
- Knowledge Sharing: Contributing to best practices on how AI agents can be effectively embedded into marketing decision-making workflows
This role suits someone comfortable building while discovering - where experimentation, iteration, and learning are part of the process.
Must-Have Experience:
- Strong Python engineering skills
- Hands-on experience building LLM-powered systems (eg, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar orchestration frameworks)
- Solid SQL skills and experience working with structured datasets to generate reliable outputs
- Experience working in exploratory or iterative environments where requirements evolve
- Proven experience taking an LLM-based solution from prototype/demo stage to a reliable, production-usable tool
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with marketing performance metrics or web analytics data
- Familiarity with RAG architectures and retrieval optimization
- Experience designing user-friendly interfaces that make data accessible to non-technical users
What Makes You Successful
- You are a collaborative builder who can quickly integrate into an existing codebase
- You have practical experience turning LLM concepts into usable tools
- You are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy shaping the “best way forward” through experimentation
- You balance pragmatism (delivering value today) with long-term architectural thinking
