As a member of the Engineering Department, the Android Application Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining Android mobile applications that enable healthcare providers, patients, and caregivers to interact with medical data, devices, and digital health services. This role requires a strong focus on user experience, data security, and compliance with healthcare regulations while delivering high-performance and reliable mobile solutions.
📍 Remote position based in Spain.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin that interface with medical systems, devices, and cloud services.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including backend engineers, UX/UI designers, and clinical stakeholders—to develop user-centric mobile experiences.
- Ensure mobile applications meet stringent performance, privacy, and security standards, especially when handling protected health information (PHI).
- Integrate with RESTful APIs and medical interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7) to enable seamless data exchange.
- Optimize application performance, responsiveness, and battery efficiency for realtime or continuous-use healthcare scenarios.
- Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and validation to meet healthcare regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, HIPAA, MDR).
- Participate in application deployment and release processes via Google Play or enterprise distribution platforms.
- Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation to support regulatory audits and ongoing product lifecycle management.
- Implement and manage communication with external medical devices using the needed protocol (e.g., Bluetooth, BLE, ASK).
- Proven experience developing native Android applications using Kotlin.
- Strong understanding of Android architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVP), RESTful API integration, and mobile data storage solutions.
- Desired: Knowledge or experience with Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) for sharing business logic across platforms.
- Desired knowledge of Bluetooth GATT Profiles and usage of third-party SDKs and libraries.
- Familiarity with healthcare standards, regulatory requirements, or prior experience in the medtech or digital health sector is highly desirable.
- Experience working with secure data transmission, encryption, and user authentication mechanisms.
- Knowledge of Android accessibility standards and best practices.
- Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Azure DevOps Repos) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Azure Pipelines) for Android applications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on creating safe and effective digital healthcare experiences.
- Clear communication skills, especially in explaining technical decisions to clinical or non-technical team members.
- Attention to detail, particularly in handling sensitive medical data and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- User empathy and a patient-centered design mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment.
- Flexibility and openness to learning in a rapidly evolving industry.
