Job Description

Embark on your development career with Codevista as a Junior Node.js Developer in a fully remote position. You'll contribute to building scalable backend applications using Node.js, while enjoying the freedom to work from anywhere in the USA. Collaborate with a distributed team via modern tools, gaining hands-on experience in a supportive environment tailored for entry-level talent.

At Codevista, we're seeking a motivated Junior Node.js Developer to join our remote team and contribute to innovative web applications. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals looking to build a strong foundation in backend development. As a fully remote position, you'll have the flexibility to work from any location in the USA, aligning your schedule with our collaborative, async-friendly culture.

Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the development of RESTful APIs using Node.js and Express.js frameworks. You'll work on integrating databases like MongoDB or PostgreSQL to handle data storage and retrieval. Daily tasks may involve writing clean, maintainable code, debugging issues, and participating in code reviews to learn best practices. You'll collaborate on features such as user authentication, real-time notifications, and API endpoints for our web platforms.

In this remote setup, effective communication is key. Our team uses tools like Slack for daily chats, Zoom for weekly stand-ups and brainstorming sessions, and Jira or Trello for task tracking. We emphasize asynchronous work to accommodate different time zones, with core hours from 10 AM to 3 PM EST for overlap. You'll receive mentorship from senior developers through pair programming sessions and regular feedback loops to accelerate your growth.

Technologies you'll engage with include Node.js for server-side logic, JavaScript (ES6+), npm for package management, and Git for version control. Basic knowledge of testing frameworks like Jest or Mocha is a plus, but we'll provide training if needed. Methodologies such as Agile and Scrum are followed, with bi-weekly sprints to keep projects on track.

This role offers a gentle learning curve, focusing on foundational skills rather than advanced expertise. You'll have opportunities to explore cloud services like AWS or Heroku for deployment, and contribute to open-source elements of our projects. Codevista values work-life balance, so expect clear expectations and support for self-paced learning through online resources and company-provided courses.

Joining our remote team means being part of a diverse, inclusive group passionate about technology. We foster a culture of continuous improvement, where your ideas are valued regardless of experience level. With this position, you'll gain practical experience that builds toward mid-level roles, all while enjoying the perks of remote work like no commute and personalized workspaces.

Requirements

  • Basic proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and basic database concepts (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Familiarity with Git for version control
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for remote collaboration
  • Self-motivation, time management, and ability to work independently
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
