We’re supporting a growing SaaS organisation in the education sector that is scaling its platform and looking for an experienced Technical Lead to drive architectural direction, platform reliability, and technical best practice.

This is a hands-on role leading technical decision‑making and major engineering initiatives — no direct reports, but significant influence across teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading system & solution design across a large-scale, cloud-native platform
• Championing reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence
• Driving automation, CI/CD improvements, and production‑readiness standards
• Guiding engineering teams on architecture, technical choices, and best practice
• Collaborating closely with Product, EMs, and senior engineers
• Leading technical delivery, feasibility assessments, and release planning

What you’ll need

• Strong background in SRE, DevOps, or Platform Engineering
• Deep experience with AWS, distributed systems, and large‑scale platforms
• PHP experience is essential, ideally with an OO codebase
• Strong skills with Terraform, IaC, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes/ECS)
• Proven experience with Python, Go, or similar scripting for automation
• Expertise in observability (DataDog, Prometheus, etc.) and incident/problem management
• Excellent system design knowledge (microservices, resilience patterns)
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical workstreams
• Interest in using AI / generative tooling to boost engineering productivity

Nice to have

• Chaos engineering & reliability testing
• Security best practice knowledge
• Experience with ECS at scale
• Background in large web platforms or open‑source contributions
