Data Engineering Chapter Lead

As a “Data Engineering Chapter Lead”, you will lead the bank’s data engineering capability within the Data Management Tribe. This role is designed for a professional with hands-on experience in hybrid data architectures—mastering the balance between robust Oracle Exadata warehouses and modern Data Lakehouse ecosystems.


You will operate with agility to drive modernization, ensuring we deliver fit-for-purpose solutions while maintaining the highest standards of security and performance.



Key Responsibilities

Lead the Mission: Champion

  • the team's core mission to deliver secure, high-performing, and fit-for-purpose data pipelines and platforms that empower our Data Scientists, Data Developers, and Data Analysts.


Provide Hands-on Leadership:

  • Lead by example with hands-on technical contribution; actively participate in the design, coding, and code reviews of critical pipelines and complex architectural components.


Bridge the Architecture:

  • Act as the primary technical advocate for "Right Workload, Right Platform," determining when to leverage the robustness of Oracle Exadata and when to utilize the scalability of Object Storage (S3) and Spark.


Modernize the Core: Lead

  • the optimization of our Enterprise Data Warehouse; drive the strategy to offload heavy PL/SQL logic into modern, automated ETL/ELT frameworks (e.g., ODI, dbt) and reduce technical debt.


Drive the Lakehouse Evolution:

  • Design and maintain a mature Data Lakehouse architecture, ensuring unstructured data and modern technologies (Spark, Airflow, Starburst/Trino) are used wisely and effectively.


Mentor & Manage: Dedicate

  • ~60% of your time to leading the Data Engineering chapter; including resource allocation across squads, budget planning, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.


Engineer for Scale: Oversee

  • the design of scalable streaming and batch pipelines on OpenShift/Cloud Native environments, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.


Ensure Governance & Security:

  • Maintain strict adherence to IT Security, Data Governance, and Risk regulatory concepts, ensuring all pipelines are compliant with banking standards.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematical Engineering, or a related field (Master of Science degree is a plus).


  • Proven ability to write high-quality, production-ready code (Python, SQL, PL/SQL) and conduct in-depth code reviews to ensure maintainability and performance.
  • Technical expertise in Oracle Data Warehouse architecture, with a proven track record of performance tuning, PL/SQL optimization, and managing large-scale data models.
  • Advanced knowledge of Python and Big Data frameworks (Spark, Airflow, Kafka). Experience building containerized analytics platforms on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
  • Strong experience in designing modern ETL/ELT pipelines and familiarity with integration tools (ODI, dbt) and data federation technologies (Starburst/Trino).
  • Designing "Data Lakehouse" architectures and managing the lifecycle of data between hot (DWH) and cold/warm (Object Storage) tiers.
  • Experience in agile team management, with the ability to balance technical contribution with team mentorship and delivery management.
  • Experience in the Banking or Finance sector (handling financial data models and regulatory requirements) is a strong plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Turkish, with the ability to articulate architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
