We’re working with a well-funded, product-led InsurTech company that’s redefining how a traditionally slow, corporate industry works, using technology, automation, and strong product design to deliver real customer value.

With a growing customer base, a highly rated mobile product, and a modern engineering organisation, they’re now looking for a hands-on Tech Lead to help shape both how products are built and how engineering teams grow.

This is a true hybrid leadership role: part technical leader, part hands-on engineer, part mentor.

🧠 About the role

You’ll join a small, senior engineering organisation (~20 people across product & tech) with a flat structure and high level of trust.

As a Tech Lead, you will:

• Lead and support a team of skilled engineers in day-to-day delivery
• Combine technical leadership with hands-on coding when it adds value
• Help set engineering standards, improve ways of working, and guide technical decisions
• Coach and mentor engineers through feedback, development plans, and regular 1-to-1s
• Work closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to turn ideas into reliable, scalable features
• Contribute to system design and long-term technical direction

This is not a pure people-manager role, staying close to the code and real engineering problems is an important part of the job.

🧱 Tech environment (high level)

You’ll work in a modern, product-focused stack, including:

• Backend services built with modern JVM technology (e.g. Kotlin + Spring Boot)
• Microservice architecture
• GraphQL APIs
• Web frontend with modern JavaScript frameworks
• Native mobile apps (iOS & Android)
• Cloud infrastructure on AWS (with some GCP exposure)

Exact tools matter less than strong engineering fundamentals and a pragmatic approach to system design.

👤 Who they’re looking for

You’re likely someone who:

• Has 4–5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Has experience leading, coaching, or mentoring engineers (formally or informally)
• Is comfortable contributing to production code when needed
• Can balance strategic thinking with practical execution
• Communicates clearly and gives constructive feedback
• Enjoys working in a collaborative, low-ego environment
• Cares about building healthy teams, not just shipping features

Experience using or exploring AI-assisted development or AI-powered features is a plus, but not a requirement.
