Job Description
Would you, as a Software Engineer, like to build smart digital solutions that are essential to the functioning of hinterland transport in the Dutch ports? Do you enjoy working on software used daily by carriers, terminals, and depots?
What will you do?
What do you bring?
Team Hinterland serves a community of over 1,500 customers in the road, inland shipping, and rail sectors.
We develop and maintain digital services that are crucial for an efficient and secure logistics chain, and we integrate with smart-service providers to jointly deliver better solutions.
Within the team, you work alongside a Business Manager, Product Owner, Business Analyst, Tech Lead, and several Software Engineers. Together, you translate customer needs into reliable software solutions.
A Day in the Life of a Software Developer in Team Hinterland
08:45 - I take the elevator to Portbase on the 8th floor and go right to the corner of team Hinterland
09:00 - Open IntelliJ to continue with my ticket
10:00 - Deploy my branch to the test environment to test
10:15 - A coffee break with colleagues and stealing some treats from the candy container in our corner
10:30 - Test ticket on the test environment
11:00 - Created a pull request in Bitbucket
11:15 - Customer Service asks if I can help them with a question from the customer
12:00 - Daily walk with the team along the Maas and grabbing lunch somewhere
12:45 - Eat our lunch together at the office
13:00 - Refinement with all Software Developers, Product Owners and Business Analysts
14:00 - Release my ticket to production and monitor its behavior for a while
15:00 - Daily with the other Software Developers
15:30 - Close my ticket in JIRA and pick up a new ticket from the sprint
17:00 - Time to close my laptop and go home
Who are we?
Portbase is the digital engine behind the Dutch ports! Each year, more than 30,000 seagoing vessels and 100,000 inland vessels arrive in the Port of Rotterdam alone. Every day, they unload enough material to build 175 Eiffel Towers. To manage this smoothly, Customs, shipping lines, terminals, and over 6,000 logistics companies collaborate via Portbase’s system.
Our Port Community System (PCS) connects logistics parties so that goods move faster, smarter, and more sustainably through the chain.
What do we offer you?
