Backend Engineer – Credit & SME Lending (AI-Augmented, Java/Rust)

Role Overview

We are looking for a backend-first engineer to build and evolve credit and SME lending systems within a modern lending orchestration platform. This role is deeply backend and domain-driven: you will work on credit decisioning flows, SME loan lifecycles, integrations with LMS and risk engines, and the orchestration of complex financial workflows. You will be part of a small, senior, AI-augmented squad, where correctness, resilience, and clean architecture matter more than feature count or UI polish. This is not a CRUD backend role. This is about building reliable credit systems that survive real-world failure modes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs for Credit and SME lending flows

Build and maintain end-to-end loan lifecycles, including:

• Application intake
• Credit decisioning
• Offer generation
• Disbursement
• Repayment & lifecycle state management

Integrate with internal systems:

• Core lending / LMS
• KYC / AML
• Payments & wallets
• Accounting or ledger systems
• Integrate with external providers:
• Credit bureaus
• Scoring engines
• Third-party financial APIs
• Contribute to an API-first, event-driven architecture
• Work closely with:
• Technical Lead on architecture and sequencing
• Automation QA to ensure quality is built-in, not added later

Use AI tools daily to:

• Accelerate implementation
• Generate tests
• Refactor safely
• Analyze failures and logs
• Participate actively in code reviews and design discussions
• Ensure services are observable and production-ready by default

What This Role Is NOT

• Not a frontend or UI-focused role
• Not a DevOps / platform engineering role
• Not a data science or ML modeling role
• Not a compliance or regulatory interpretation role
• Not a low-ownership “ticket execution” position

Required Technical Skills

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (Spring Boot or similar) or Rust
• Solid backend fundamentals:
• REST APIs
• Service-to-service integration
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL or equivalent)
• Experience with integration-heavy systems, ideally fintech or financial services

Understanding of:

• Distributed systems basics
• Asynchronous and event-driven workflows
• Transactional consistency and failure modes
• Comfortable reading, debugging, and evolving existing backend systems
• Daily user of AI-assisted development tools

Nice to Have (Not Mandatory)

• Experience with credit, lending, or SME financial products
• Prior exposure to:
• Loan Management Systems (LMS)
• Credit scoring or decision engines

Experience with:

• Event streaming or messaging systems
• Workflow orchestration patterns
• Rust experience in production systems
• Familiarity with financial domain concepts (APR, schedules, amortization, fees)
