Who We Are
Open Government Products (OGP) operates like a startup within the government; We are a fast-paced, dynamic team of engineers, designers, and product managers dedicated to public good. We autonomously identify opportunities to solve public problems using tech, rapidly prototype, and launch solutions—from citizen apps to automating public agency operations. Embracing an open-sourced and flat hierarchy, we cut through bureaucracy to focus on real-world, user-centric innovations that drive change.
The Team
You will be joining the Isomer team, the team behind Singapore’s official government website platform. Isomer powers hundreds of public sector websites across ministries, statutory boards, and agencies, helping the government communicate clearly and reliably with citizens.
Our mission is to help government teams communicate clearly and confidently with citizens, by making public sector websites fast, accessible, and easy to use.
Every feature we build helps someone find the right information faster, understand it better, or trust what they’re reading. From a parent looking up school admissions to a senior checking healthcare information, our work shapes how people experience government online.
As a Software Engineer on Isomer, you’re not just building software. You’re helping millions of people interact with public services more easily every day. We sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and public service. We work closely with designers, product managers, and government officers to understand real-world content needs and turn them into simple, scalable solutions. From content management and publishing workflows to performance, accessibility, and security, the problems we solve directly affect how millions of people experience government online.
As a platform used across government, our work has real scale and long-term impact. Small improvements can make life easier for content editors, and better experiences for citizens. If you care about building software that actually gets used and makes a difference, this team is for you.
About the Role
We’re looking for a thoughtful and driven Software Engineer to help build and grow the Isomer platform.
You’ll work on real production systems used across the Singapore Government, improving our existing foundations while exploring new ways to make government information easier to publish, access, and trust. You won’t be expected to know everything from day one. What matters most is your curiosity, willingness to learn, and care for building quality software.
This role is well-suited for someone who thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, cares deeply about data quality and accessibility, and enjoys building reliable, scalable platforms that empower others to make informed, evidence-based decisions.
Key Responsibilities
You will work with a competent cross functional team to perform the following
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable production-ready software across the stack - from frontend components to backend services and infrastructure.
- Write maintainable, readable, and performant code while participating in code reviews to ensure engineering quality.
- Work closely with PMs, designers, and officers on the ground to identify opportunities, scope features, test hypotheses, and ship solutions that solve real pain points.
- Write and review engineering documentation such as RFCs and technical specifications to improve knowledge sharing.
- Set up robust monitoring, alerting, and testing practices to ensure our systems are production-ready and reliable.
- Own projects end-to-end, from discovery and prototyping to deployment and iteration.
- Contribute to the broader culture of continuous improvement across OGP.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, React, and backend development (Next.js, Node.js or similar).
- Experience designing REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases.
- Excellent communication skills, especially in understanding and translating problems and requirements into software.
- Strong product thinking and empathy for users - especially non-technical ones.
- (Bonus) Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- (Bonus) Experience in startups or fast-paced environments; proven ability to succeed in dynamic settings and manage shifting priorities with sometimes challenging stakeholders.
Overall we look for people who have ability, initiative, good communication, and most importantly, a passionate heart for public good. Don’t hesitate to apply, even if you might not possess all the skills and qualifications!
