Role overview:

Our client is looking for an experienced Infrastructure Systems Engineer with hands-on Windows Server and on-premises server room experience to join our Test Infrastructure and Platforms team. The role supports the delivery, validation, and ongoing operation of environments that include both physical hardware and virtual platforms.

The successful candidate will work to defined processes, runbooks, and engineering specifications, supporting validation and verification activities and ensuring environments meet documented requirements within project millstones.

This role requires a flexible onsite presence, with occasional work within a server room, including racking, stacking and cabling of server and networking hardware.

This role is ideal for a Windows-focused systems administrator with strong PowerShell skills and proven experience working directly with physical infrastructure in an enterprise setting.

Main Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and support physical infrastructure including Dell servers, switches, and Palo Alto firewalls.
• Deploy servers and applications according to defined engineering specifications and runbooks.
• Administer and support Microsoft Active Directory, DNS, and core Windows client and server services.
• Build, configure, and maintain Virtual Machines within a VMware based infrastructure.
• Develop and run PowerShell scripting automation and operational tasks.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues, document findings, and escalate or engage vendors when required.
• Work with vendor support for diagnostics, RMAs, and issue resolution.
• Follow and contribute to operational documentation, procedures, and technical standards
• Perform rack & stack, cabling, and hardware lifecycle activities in an on-premises server room environment.

Essential Expertise:

• At least 5 years proven experience in a hands-on on-premises Windows systems administration and infrastructure role.
• Practical experience supporting physical hardware in an enterprise environment, including rack & stack and cabling.
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, and related services.
• Good PowerShell scripting skills – running, debugging and troubleshooting.
• Experience deploying servers and applications by following existing designs, specifications, and documentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot, document, and clearly communicate technical issues.
• Experience working with hardware vendor support and following structured support processes.
• Good networking knowledge, including Switching, Routing and Firewall configuration.
• Education: Bachelors’ Degree in Information Technology or Computer Engineering

Nice to Have

• Experience with Dell servers and Dell switches.
• Experience with Palo Alto Network Firewall hardware and OS.
• Experience with VMware virtualization.
• Exposure to Proxmox, Nutanix, and/or Microsoft Azure
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
• Working knowledge of Linux systems and operations.
• Exposure to Kubernetes environments and basic container concepts.
• Experience with the Grafana monitoring and observability stack.

Important information regarding the ways of working:

1. There may be occasional periods of physically demanding activity when working onsite with lab/server room equipment and hardware.
2. Location considerations Work requires daily collaboration with stakeholders, team members in European time zones, occasionally with US time zones.
