Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Engineering API Team. This team is at the core of building and scaling the backend systems that power the Organization’s digital platforms, which enable our constituents and partners around the world to collaborate, engage, and connect with the Organization’s mission.

About the role:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Design and maintain data ingestion pipelines from multiple sources.
• Ensure backend architecture meets standards of scalability, security, and performance.
• Build backend capabilities for globla search, people retrieval, networking, and recommendations.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and observability of production systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product needs into technical solutions.

Technologies:

• Proven experience designing, building, and operating scalable backend services and web APIs in production – (Python, Ruby or Golang).
• Strong experience building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines from multiple internal and external sources.
• Strong proficiency in SQL databases, especially PostgreSQL.
• Strong experience building and maintaining data ingestion pipelines from multiple internal and external sources.
• Solid understanding of modern backend design patterns, with emphasis on scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Experience building backend systems for search, retrieval, or recommendations use cases (e.g. content, people, articles).
• Experience deploying and managing applications in cloud environments (Heroku, AWS, GCP, or Azure) and with containerized deployments (Docker).
• Strong problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and the capacity to thrive in fast paced environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Practical experience with Elasticsearch.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks and experience integrating with AI services, RAG pipelines and agent-based systems.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).
