The Director supports the Executive Director and Deputy Director-General in delivering current initiatives by oversight of program design, planning, analysis, implementation, and reporting.

The Director will assist the department to achieve its vision through a performance driven and customer focused culture that delivers results, whilst displaying the core public sector values of customers first; ideas into action; unleash potential; be courageous; and empower people.

The position requires a person who will take personal responsibility for serving the government of the day and meeting the needs of the people and communities of Queensland. You will work towards a system of world class service delivery and public sector management.

You will have a record of success as a leader in a complex organisation with outstanding leadership ability to deliver quality outcomes. You will have extensive experience across the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors and you will have a strong background in any number of strategies, stakeholder engagement, strategic investment & funding as well as all aspects of program management and implementation of a range of community focussed initiatives at local level, service delivery, analysing performance measures and high-quality customer experience. Your leadership skills will be showcased by your achievements in delivering practical outcomes focussed on making a difference for Queenslanders. You will have a proven track record as an agent of change in challenging environments and in supporting a diverse, confident and capable workforce.

Your Responsibilities

The Director will have leadership and management accountability for the work area under their control including:

  • Building a workplace culture of inclusivity, and support through the vision and values of the department, which enables an environment of fairness, honesty and integrity as we achieve agency objectives.
  • Providing authoritative, strategic, tactical and operational advice to the Executive Director, and Deputy Director-General, and senior management on matters relevant to the work area.
  • Leading staff in continuous improvements, renewal and change, ensuring effective change management and engagement processes are in place including safe and supportive feedback mechanisms.
  • Leading the design, planning, development, commissioning, review, assurance and evaluation of domestic and family services and sexual violence services programs across Queensland.
  • Ensuring effective leadership and management of resources - including financial, human and physical assets in accordance with statutory responsibilities, government priorities and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Leading and managing the engagement, partnering and relationship building with a range of stakeholders across the sector as well as across government to contribute to and provide maximum integrated benefit to communities.
  • Contributing effectively to the Government's and Department's priorities and reform agenda.
  • Actively contributing to the strategic leadership and management of Families Commissioning as a member of the branch's leadership team.
  • Participating on other key governance groups, both internally and externally as required.
  • Planning, organising and managing the area's responsibilities, including fostering a professional environment to encourage commitment, ethical behaviour, staff wellbeing, skills development, professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Professionally represent the department at forums and meetings as required.


Role Specific/technical Skills

  • Developing strategies for investment and whole-of-government activity to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence and sexual violence.
  • Leading strategic stakeholder engagement, including with peak organisations and industry bodies, and across government.
  • Leading research and analysis, including coordinating and conducting internal research, monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and data collection and analysis activities.
