Turf Engineer

Overview

The Turf Engineer will be responsible for the planning, maintenance, inspection, and enhancement of natural and synthetic turf across various facilities within a large-scale Facilities Management (FM) project in Qatar. This role ensures that all turf areas—such as sports fields, parks, landscaped zones, and public spaces—meet international standards for safety, performance, and visual quality, while complying with local climatic conditions and sustainability requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in turf science, irrigation systems, soil analysis, horticulture, and grounds maintenance, along with experience working in hot-climate environments like the GCC.

Your Role

Turf Maintenance & Operations

• Oversee daily inspection, upkeep, and performance standards of natural and artificial turf areas.
• Develop and implement turf maintenance schedules including mowing, aeration, dethatching, topdressing, fertilization, and pest/disease control.
• Monitor turf health using scientific assessment methods, soil testing, and environmental condition analysis.
• Ensure turf surfaces meet required standards for sports performance, safety, and aesthetics.
  
  

Irrigation & Water Management

• Manage irrigation systems including scheduling, troubleshooting, and optimization for water efficiency.
• Coordinate with irrigation technicians to ensure proper distribution uniformity and system maintenance.
• Recommend water-saving practices aligned with Qatar sustainability goals.
  
  

Technical & Quality Compliance

• Ensure all turf maintenance activities comply with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), Ashghal standards, and relevant international turf standards.
• Prepare technical reports, inspection logs, risk assessments, and corrective action plans.
• Conduct rootzone analysis, soil nutrient mapping, and turf stress evaluations.
  
  

Project & Vendor Management

• Supervise landscape technicians, groundskeepers, and external service providers.
• Coordinate with facility managers, sports officials, and FM operations teams for event-related turf preparations.
• Manage procurement of turf materials, fertilizers, pesticides, and specialized equipment.
  
  

Health, Safety & Environment

• Implement safe working practices in accordance with HSE policies.
• Ensure usage of environmentally friendly chemicals and sustainable turf practices suitable for Qatar's climate
  
  

About You

Education & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering, or related field.
• Certifications in turf management, sports turf maintenance, pest control, or irrigation (preferred).
• Knowledge of FIFA, USGA, or World Rugby turf standards is an advantage.
  
  

Experience

• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in turf maintenance within FM projects, stadiums, sports complexes, golf courses, or large-scale landscape environments.
• Proven experience managing turf in arid or GCC climates is highly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with natural grass care, synthetic turf upkeep, and irrigation technologies.
  
  

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of turf diseases, pest management, and soil science.
• Technical knowledge of irrigation systems, pumps, sprinklers, and related equipment.
• Ability to interpret turf performance data and create improvement strategies.
• Excellent leadership, planning, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in high-temperature outdoor environments as per Qatar labor and health guidelines.
  
  

Other Requirements

• Valid Qatar driving license (or ability to obtain one) preferred.
• Willingness to work flexible hours based on project requirements and sports schedules.
• Familiarity with CAFM systems is an added advantage.
