Senior Backend and DevOps Engineer (Full-Time, Lausanne)

Scholé AI is building the future of AI-native learning. We’re a recently founded venture-backed spinoff of EPFL’s Machine Learning for Education Lab and UC Berkeley. We’re looking for someone who’s committed to working in a fast-paced, fast-growing startup with a strong technical team and lots of interesting problems to solve. The company is founded by two EPFL CS PhDs who have been working in AI for Education for more than 10 years.

We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own and scale the backend systems powering Scholé’s personalized learning platform. This is a full-time on-site role based in Lausanne. You will design, build, and maintain the APIs, data pipelines, and services that enable adaptive lessons, analytics, and AI-driven personalization.

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using Django.
• Take ownership of cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and scalability.
• Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and AI engineers to ship new features.
• Ensure performance, reliability, security, and data integrity across the platform.

• 5+ years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering, with strong systems design experience.
• Strong experience with Django.
• Solid understanding of API design, relational databases, and backend architecture best practices.
• Experience working with cloud environments, and Docker (Azure experience is a plus).
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a small, fast-moving team.

• Experience working with data pipelines, analytics systems, or ML-adjacent infrastructure.
• Familiarity with AI or LLM-powered systems in production.
• Background in education technology or user-centric platforms.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance considerations.

• Own and shape the backend foundations of an AI-native learning platform with a strong, ambitious team, and user growth.
• High impact, high ownership.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: 90,000 – 100,000 CHF (depending on experience) + equity

Location: Unlimitrust Campus, Lausanne, Switzerland

Work Authorization: You must have the right to work in Switzerland.
