IBM is looking for a Senior Drupal developer to join our team and maintain and enhance a headless Drupal CMS that powers a client’s global eCommerce website and mobile applications, delivered through robust APIs and optimized for performance and scale on Acquia Cloud.

Your Role And Responsibilities

Maintain and enhance a headless Drupal platform delivering content to web and mobile frontends.
Design, build, and maintain REST/JSON APIs (and related integrations) to expose structured content to consuming applications.
Ensure API outputs align with agreed JSON schema definitions, including versioning and backward compatibility where needed.
Improve the editorial experience by implementing reusable content models (content types, Paragraphs, media), workflows, and page-building tools following Drupal best practices.
Operate, manage, and optimize Drupal hosting on Acquia Cloud (environments, deployments, configurations), ensuring security, scalability, and reliability.
Drive performance improvements using multi-layer caching (Drupal cache metadata, Varnish, CDN) and ensure correct cache invalidation for dynamic/personalized content.
Collaborate with UX/UI and stakeholders to ensure content structures support accessibility (WCAG) and SEO best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to API delivery, integrations, caching behavior, and content publishing across environments.
Contribute to engineering quality through code reviews, automated tests, CI/CD, and documentation.

Required Technical And Professional Expertise

5+ years of Drupal (Drupal 8-11) experience, ideally including decoupled/headless implementations.
Strong experience building Drupal modules and working with core/contrib APIs and services.
Solid knowledge of PHP, Symfony/Drupal service container patterns, and SQL database fundamentals
Proven experience designing or implementing APIs, structured content delivery, and handling schema contracts.
Hands-on experience with performance topics: Drupal cache metadata (tags/contexts/max-age), Varnish behavior, and CDN considerations.
Experience with Git and team delivery workflows (PRs, branching strategies).
Comfortable working in cloud environments; Acquia Cloud experience is strongly preferred.
Fluency in English.

Preferred Technical And Professional Experience

Experience with other ecosystems (Symfony, Laravel, Magento/Adobe Commerce etc)
Experience with Acquia Cloud tooling and security hardening practices.
Automated testing experience: PHPUnit, functional/browser tests, and/or Behat.
Familiarity with frontend or mobile consumption patterns (Next.js, React, native apps) and troubleshooting cross-system issues.
