This is a fast-growing European fintech building modern business banking and financial operations software for SMEs. The platform replaces slow, fragmented legacy systems with secure, automated infrastructure covering accounts, payments, cards, and financial workflows. The role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll work on the core systems and integration layer that connect the platform to third-party services. You’ll be trusted with real responsibility, from system design through to running services in production.

What you’ll work on

• Designing and building secure, versioned REST APIs for frontend and partner integrations
• Developing banking and payments integrations, including web hooks with validation, transformation, and event publishing
• Building event-driven microservices using Kafka, with robust error handling, retries, dead-letter queues, and replayability
• Creating event projections and read models optimised for fast, reliable querying
• Designing services with clear boundaries, independent deployment, and horizontal scalability
• Owning the full production lifecycle on Kubernetes, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and secure deployments
• Implementing observability by default: metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting
• Applying security best practices across APIs, infrastructure, and data flows
• Building systems that model banking domain concepts correctly, with accuracy, audit-friendly, and regulatory awareness

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience
• Strong problem-solving skills that go beyond specific languages or frameworks
• Experience designing and operating production REST APIs with clear contracts and versioning
• Solid experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka (or similar)
• Comfort working across both dynamic languages (rapid iteration) and compiled, type-safe languages (correctness and performance)
• Strong intuition for distributed systems trade-offs and failure modes
• Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
• A collaborative, team-oriented mindset. You care about building good systems and good teams

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, banking, payments, or other regulated environments
• Exposure to open banking standards (PSD2, ISO 20022, Berlin Group)
• Experience with event sourcing, CQRS, or complex integration workflows
• Owning production incidents, post-mortems, and continuous improvement
