About Us

AVTECH is a Swedish SaaS company in the aviation industry, headquartered on the 30th floor of Kista Science Tower in Stockholm. We develop advanced digital services that help airlines worldwide optimize their operations – from fuel savings and flight trajectory optimization to improved punctuality and reduced environmental impact.

We are in a strong growth phase and are now expanding our product development team with an experienced Backend Developer. This is a key opportunity to join a technically skilled and collaborative team where your work will be directly used by airlines around the world.

The Role

We are looking for 3 Backend Developers with around five years of professional experience and a strong analytical mindset. You should have a solid foundation in computer science and experience working on backend systems in a professional setting.

In this role, you will help shape and build the backbone of AVTECH’s software solutions – ensuring scalability, robustness, and performance. You will work across a modern stack that involves databases, APIs, and cloud services. While we primarily use Python, your experience in other backend environments is equally valuable.

We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding the system as a whole: from design principles and architecture to performance, maintainability, and operational excellence. You take pride in doing things the right way and want to build systems that last.

Your Technical Focus Track (choose ONE)

This is a backend developer role where most of your time will be classic product/backend engineering — but we are looking for people who want to take ownership of one specific technical focus area.

• Expected split: ~75% general backend development, ~25% within your chosen focus track
• Important: We’re not looking for three different job titles. We’re looking for backend developers who are motivated to grow into a focus area and help raise the bar for the team in that domain.

Track 1 — Algorithms & Optimization

You’re excited by problems like:

• Dynamic programming, search, heuristics, optimization
• Curve fitting, numerical methods, mathematical modelling
• Turning complex optimization ideas into production-grade code

What “championing” can look like:

• Helping shape how we implement, test, and evaluate optimization logic
• Improving performance, correctness, and explainability of algorithm-heavy parts

Track 2 — AI for Engineering Productivity

You’re excited by using AI to improve how software gets built:

• Faster delivery with higher quality (coding assistance, test generation, refactoring support)
• Raising adherence to standards (consistency, best practices, reviews)
• Practical workflows: prompts, guardrails, evaluation, automation, templates

What “championing” can look like:

• Establishing “how we use AI here” in a safe, structured way
• Making AI-supported development a predictable accelerator (not a gimmick)

Track 3 — Software Design & Architecture Patterns

You’re passionate about maintainable systems and good engineering practices:

• SOLID, DRY, clean boundaries, transactions, API-first design
• Microservices vs modular monolith trade-offs, integration patterns
• Keeping complexity under control as we scale

What “championing” can look like:

• Helping evolve patterns, conventions, and reference implementations together with our systems architect
• Driving pragmatic improvements to architecture and code quality over time

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and maintain backend components for AVTECH’s aviation optimization services.
• Contribute to the evolution of our architecture and development practices.
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code with a focus on scalability and long-term quality.
• Collaborate with other developers, architects, and stakeholders to design and implement new functionality.
• Contribute to improving system performance, stability, and observability.
• Be part of a cross-functional team where software goes directly into production and is used worldwide.

What We’re Looking For

• A university degree in computer science, software engineering, or a similar technical field.
• Approximately five years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a good grasp of software design principles (e.g., SOLID, DRY) and backend concepts (e.g., message queues, APIs, data modeling, security).
• Experience in at least one major backend language (Python experience is a plus).
• Familiarity with cloud environments, databases, and CI/CD workflows.
• A self-driven mindset and a genuine motivation to build robust, maintainable systems.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• You already live in the Stockholm area.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required. Swedish is a plus.
