Organizational Setting
The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA's nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the Agency's activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and security.
Education
The objective of the Division of Nuclear Installation Safety (NSNI) is to achieve and maintain a high level of safety of nuclear installations worldwide that are under design or construction or in operation. The Division does this by establishing standards of safety for the protection of health, including standards for nuclear power plants and other nuclear installations and facilities, and by providing for the application of these standards through, among other things, support for the IAEA's Technical Cooperation programme, the rendering of safety review services, the promotion of education and training, the fostering of information exchange and the coordination of research and development. In addition, the Division helps ensure safety at nuclear installations by promulgating international safety instruments such as the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the Code of Conduct on the Safety of Research Reactors. NSNI comprises five Sections:
Main Purpose
Under the guidance and supervision of the Section Head, the Associate Project Officer contributes to the management of projects approved and implemented in the regular programme funded from regular budget or extrabudgetary funds.
Role
The Associate Project Officer is: (1) a scheduler, preparing, reviewing, and maintaining detailed work plans and schedules of project activities, developing and maintaining tools for tracking project resource allocation, monitoring the status of activities, and contributing to the preparation of project reports, consisting of comprehensive summaries of activities performed; (2) a team member supporting the design and delivery of effective communication and advocacy strategy for the expected results; (3) a communicator to the Section Head on improving the efficient and effective production and delivery of public information to target audiences through digital and print channels; and (4) an officer supporting implementation of the nuclear safety strategy on education and training.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Prepare regular reports of technical project activities including draft narrative progress reports as well as consolidation and agreement of Sections contributions to regular Agency's reports; Track and maintain the project budget allocation.
In close collaboration with the team collect, evaluate, consolidate and disseminate technical project information among project team members and counterparts. Assist the team in the implementation of technical project activities and the development of programme final reports, gather information regarding contracts and deliverables. This involves quality evaluation, liaison with counterparts, and consolidation of material.
Provide technical support by developing and delivery of technical training material to support project implementation.
Problem investigation and solution: analysis and suggestion of solutions and recommendations for issues identified in the course of his/her work.

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $55163 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 30064*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy , education grant , relocation and repatriation expenses ; Other benefits include 6 weeks' annual leave, home leave travel , pension plan and health insurance. Qualifications, Experience And Language Skills
- Bachelor's Degree - University degree in engineering, science, business administration, international relations, or a related field of study.
- Minimum of two years of related experience, in project management regarding planning, coordination, budget preparation and reporting, preferably in an international environment.
- Experience in development of detailed budget plans, monitor financial implementation, ensure correct processing and conduct overall risk management is required.
- Experience in managing web-based platforms and information systems for knowledge sharing (e.g., SharePoint, web content management), and in supporting the development of capacity building programmes, preferably in international organizations, is required.
- Exposure to projects or activities related to nuclear safety or regulatory frameworks in an international context is desirable.
- Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
