As a Software Engineer at Optum, you will be a key hands-on contributor within a team of talented software engineers. You will be a collaborative self-starter who is passionate about design, that can take ownership and drive results. Primary Responsibilities Of The Software Engineer

  • Develop services, controls, and patterns for public cloud that enable security and privacy at scale
  • Help define technical solutions to meet business needs through Agile process
  • Foster high-performance, collaborative technical work resulting in high-quality output
  • Gather and analyze data to aide in informed decision-making while providing detailed, realistic estimates
  • Interact skillfully with business stakeholders and third-party technical organizations
  • Proactively automate infrastructure and services to enable a small team to deliver value to a global enterprise

Required Qualifications of the Software Engineer: 

  • Experience as software development engineer or equivalent hands-on experience producing code for production systems
  • Proven experience in Public Cloud such as AWS, Azure, GCP beyond basic IaaS functionality
  • Experience programming in at least one high-level language (Java, C#, Python, Golang, JavaScript, etc.)  
  • Previous engineering experience in building infrastructure using code and repeatable designs
  • Experience in CI/CD practices and tools, specifically GitHub Actions and Jenkins, and source control systems such as Git.

Preferred Qualifications Of The Software Engineeer

  • Evidence based approach to making decisions and solving problems.
  • Design mindset - capable of building distributed/scalable services
  • Algorithms, data structures, OO design and other CS concepts.
  • API design and lifecycle management (REST, etc.)
  • Application foundations and frameworks (Spring, Flask, etc.)
  • Data storage, caching and optimization (NoSQL databases, Redis, PostgreSQL, etc.)
  • Inter-service messaging and streams discovery (SQS, Pub/Sub Kafka, etc.)
  • Instrumentation, logging and tracing (Prometheus, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor etc.)
