Senior Data Engineer – Deep Turnaround
Royal Schiphol Group – Amsterdam Airport Area
Ever sat at the gate staring at your aircraft and wondering why boarding hasn’t started?
Aircraft delays don’t just frustrate passengers — they ripple across airports, crews, ground handling, and airlines, creating operational chaos and financial impact.
Now imagine using machine vision and real-time data engineering to understand — and reduce — those delays.
That’s Deep Turnaround.
About Deep Turnaround
Deep Turnaround is an AI-powered aviation solution developed by Royal Schiphol Group.
Using machine vision, it captures previously invisible data points in the aircraft turnaround process — one of the most delay-sensitive stages in aviation. These live insights are shared with airport partners to enable smarter, faster, data-driven decisions.
This is not a research project.
It’s a live, operational platform used in real airport environments.
The Role – Senior Data Engineer
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:
- Scale and strengthen the Deep Turnaround data platform
- Drive engineering strategy for the coming years
- Improve reliability, performance, and automation
- Reduce manual onboarding effort for new airport deployments
- Act as technical lead during customer implementations
This is a hands-on role. You build. You design. You improve. You lead.
What You’ll Be Doing
Platform & Architecture
- Design and build robust, scalable data pipelines
- Develop small integration services (Golang preferred, Python secondary)
- Enable secure data exchange (SFTP/FTP, APIs, VPN, firewall rules)
- Configure external snapshot services on VM environments
Streaming & Data
- Work with Kafka or AMQP
- Integrate with ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Object Storage
- Contribute to schema governance
- Improve CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/GitHub Actions)
Observability & Reliability
- Enhance monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana)
- Define SLOs
- Build actionable dashboards
- Own production triage for integrations
- Conduct post-mortems and convert fixes into automation
Onboarding & Automation
- Create templates, runbooks, and checklists
- Reduce ad-hoc support through architecture improvements
- Elevate the reliability baseline of the platform
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, EE, or related
- 7+ years in production engineering environments
