Overview :

DESCRIPTION OF THE TASKS

The contractor will:

• Maintain, correct and enhance existing web applications and backend services used to access AI-based language services.
• Analyse incidents, defects and change requests, identify root causes and implement robust and sustainable fixes.
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on frontend applications (e.g. Angular) and backend web services (REST/SOAP APIs).
• Ensure compatibility of applications with evolving platforms, libraries, frameworks and security requirements.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, AI engineers and operations teams to ensure smooth end-to-end service delivery.
• Improve code quality, readability and maintainability through refactoring, documentation and adherence to development standards.
• Contribute to release activities, including impact analysis, regression fixes, and support during deployment.
• Maintain and update technical documentation related to applications, interfaces and known issues.
• Participate in incident resolution and provide second- or third-level support when required.
• Propose and implement small functional or technical improvements to enhance usability, performance and robustness of applications.
• Create a report with maintenance KPIs and submit it to DGT-t2 management monthly.
• Provide advanced operational support for eTranslation and related AI services, including handling requests from institutional users and external integrators.
• Manage and document recurring issues in Confluence/Jira.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The following competencies are required:

• Proven experience in application maintenance and software development in a professional environment.
• Solid knowledge of web application development technologies, in particular
• Angular or equivalent modern frontend frameworks.
• Experience developing and maintaining web services (RESTful APIs, JSON/XML, HTTP/S).
• Good understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS.
• Familiarity with backend technologies and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience working with version control systems (e.g. Git) and collaborative development workflows.
• Ability to analyse existing codebases and quickly understand complex functional and technical logic.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation and to document fixes, changes and known limitations.
• Good communication skills and ability to work closely with multidisciplinary teams (developers, AI specialists, operations).
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in operational support and maintenance of large-scale AI or language technology platforms.
• Direct experience with eTranslation or equivalent EU institutional language services
• Due to the particular nature of a large international organisation such as the European Commission, candidates should also have the following non-technical skills
• Capability of integration in an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability and experience in working in a team.
• Ability to participate in multilingual meetings.
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, on multiple large projects; Excellent team player.

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE:

• Hands-on experience maintaining and evolving Angular-based web applications (minimum competence level 2).
• Practical experience with web service integration and API maintenance (minimum competence level 2).
• Experience working with cloud-hosted applications (preferably Microsoft Azure environments).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes is an asset.
• Basic understanding of application security, authentication, authorization and data protection principles.
