Software Engineer (Front End)

We are working with a compact, product-focused digital consultancy that ships mobile apps and bespoke web platforms for a range of clients, from nimble startups to well-known brands. Projects run anywhere from a few months to around a year, and you will help deliver tidy, maintainable solutions that make a measurable difference for users and businesses.

About the role

This is a hands-on Front End Engineer role inside an engineering team that values craftsmanship and practical impact. You will work directly with the tech lead and the wider delivery squad to turn briefs into reliable, tested software. The focus is on producing clean, scalable frontend and mobile code, lifting overall engineering standards, and contributing to client-facing conversations when needed.

The role suits a software engineer who enjoys solving frontend challenges, cares about code quality, and wants to see the products they build perform in the real world.

What you will do

Delivery and collaboration

• Partner with the tech lead, product and design to translate requirements into pragmatic technical solutions.
• Estimate work, help scope sprints and keep delivery predictable.
• Participate in client and stakeholder meetings to translate technical constraints into clear options and timelines.

Craft and quality

• Build readable, maintainable code with an emphasis on testability and long-term maintainability.
• Deliver frontend and mobile features across React, Next.js, React Native and Flutter when required.
• Run and participate in code reviews, provide constructive feedback and help troubleshoot production issues.
• Contribute to CI/CD, testing practices and performance improvements.
• Keep the team current by sharing learnings and suggesting sensible technology improvements.

What you bring

Essential

• Solid experience with modern JavaScript (ES6+) and Typescript.
• Strong practical experience with React and Next.js; experience with React Native or Flutter is a plus.
• Familiar with Git-based workflows and comfortable in code-review driven teams.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests using Jest or similar frameworks.
• Proven history working in an agency, consultancy or fast-paced startup environment.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain trade-offs to product and non-technical stakeholders.
• A proactive, collaborative approach and strong attention to detail.

Nice to have

• Prior exposure to Node.js backends, GraphQL or REST APIs.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and basic DevOps concepts (CI/CD pipelines, deployments).
• Experience scoping work and contributing to proposals or estimates.
• A curiosity about emerging tools and AI-assisted developer workflows.
